More attention,

more answers

Stone Physical Therapy is built around people who haven’t found solutions in a traditional clinic setting. Within these walls, patients receive individual time with a curious clinical ear who listens, asks questions, and problem-solves alongside her patients.

More curiosity

Is your issue ‘too complicated?’ Overlapping causes, flare-ups without any identifiable pattern, and symptoms that have been dismissed or misunderstood leave patients feeling misunderstood and frustrated. Samantha understands that individuals do not always fit neatly into a diagnostic box and finds that complexity interesting, not inconvenient.

More time

At Stone Physical Therapy, every patient receives one-to-one care from Samantha for the entirety of their 60-minute session. No waiting rooms, aides, or mid-treatment handoffs means that your care is consistent, focused, and solution-oriented with someone who knows you and your case, inside and out.

A different kind of care

If traditional physical therapy has left you feeling unheard, rushed, or no better than when you started. Stone Physical Therapy understands that this is not the patient’s fault — the right fit is around the corner in a patient-focused, personalized setting.

Caring for the nervous system

‘Do you ever feel like your nervous system is on fire?’ Patients can ask this question and feel outside of themselves by doing so, but they are not alone. Samantha understands that stress can make pain worse, your body tension long after an injury heals, and that some physical injury can leave some patients never quite feeling secure in their own bodies. Healing the nervous system is not a bonus — it is the work.

You are in the right place

If this resonates, you're exactly where you are meant to be. Samantha does not shy away from confusion, frustration, and puzzles. She is a non-judgmental listener who wants to hear the problem you almost didn't mention. Find solutions and get the attention you need at Stone Physical Therapy.

Integrative, intuitive, collaborative

Samantha Stone, DPT, of Stone Physical Therapy has treated patients in Richmond, Virginia for 14 years, specializing in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation. In Samantha, patients find a kind and an active listener who truly hears their stories, needs, and priorities. Samantha has a mind made for puzzling, gathering anecdotal pieces and identifying patterns to build your personalized treatment plan that leads to real solutions. Patients often find relief in Samantha’s approach, after years of attempts through other measures and practitioners.

12 years of formal ballet training inspired Samantha Stone’s early interest in movement and mind-body integration. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Marymount University in 2012 and her undergraduate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she studied Health, Physical Education, and Exercise Science.

Samantha is certified in trigger point dry needling through Myopain Seminars, which has become a signature part of her practice. Well regarded for advanced dry needling skills, Samantha is sought out by fellow physical therapists for both treatment and education in the field.

Embracing a lifelong love of learning, Samantha uses continuing education in commitment to remaining at the forefront of orthopedic and manual therapy practice.

Samantha has particular strength working with patients experiencing chronic pain, persistent injuries, and conditions that are complex or difficult to diagnose.

When patients are told there is nothing more to do, Samantha respectfully disagrees.

Why pay out-of-pocket?

In a world where patients often choose their provider based on insurance coverage, choosing a self-pay practice can feel counter-intuitive. However, directly paying your physical therapist means choosing a different kind of relationship with your provider. When you choose to pay out of pocket for services, your sessions remain treatment-focused, personalized, and confidential. No claims, prior authorization, and no outside parties influencing care.

In a traditional clinic setting, insurance requirements often dictate number and pacing of visits, length of each session, and covered treatments and interventions. While this structure works for many people, patients who want more autonomy in their own recovery benefit from a direct-pay model.

Every session is one full hour at a one-to-one ratio, with no competing appointments or distractions. Your treatment plan is built around what your body actually needs, not around what a billing code will allow.

Your privacy matters. Through direct pay care, no diagnosis codes are submitted to insurers or stored in insurance databases. Your progress notes remain entirely between you and Samantha. For patients who would like to seek insurance reimbursement, Stone Physical Therapy is happy to provide a super bill you can submit.

Research suggests that patients who invest directly in their care tend to have better outcomes. Some of Samantha’s patients find that visits are more productive and effective, often decreasing needed frequency and offsetting the expense of direct pay. Invested patients show up differently and these results speak for themselves at Stone Physical Therapy.

Functional Assessment

Every treatment plan starts here. Samantha will study how patients move: your posture, your gait, and how your joints are working together. The objective is not just to find where it hurts, but to understand why it hurts and to collaboratively build a roadmap that is specific to the individual.

Targeted Manual Therapy

Hands-on techniques like joint mobilization, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), and soft tissue release are delivered in sessions tailored to patient tolerance and goals.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is an intervention where a thin, unmedicated needle is inserted into tight and irritated muscle tissue to reduce pain, improve blood flow, and improve muscle recruitment. It can change the biochemistry of the muscle!

Progressive Exercise Programming

Recovery does not happen only in the clinic. Samantha will guide you through therapeutic exercises designed to evolve with you. She will pair our sessions with at-home routines that are realistic, specific, and adjusted regularly as you progress.

No referral is needed. Virginia is a direct-access state, which means you can schedule an appointment directly and can get started right away.

How much does it cost?

The initial evaluation: $200.

Your first visit includes a thorough assessment of your movement, strength, and history, along with a personalized plan of care built around your specific goals.

Individual visits: $185

Drop in as needed for a single follow-up visit, with no ongoing commitment.

For patients who know they'll benefit from a series of visits, packages offer a lower per-visit rate:

Package Rate per visit Total

5 visits $175/visit $875

8 visits $165/visit $1,320

10 visits $155/visit $1,550

Treatment plans

If your evaluation shows that you'd benefit from a structured plan of care, we'll build one together based on what we find. Most plans ask for a one-month commitment, seen either:

4 visits/month (1x per week) at $155/visit, which is $620/month total

or

2 visits/month (1x every 2 weeks) at $155/visit, which is $310/month total

Our approach to affordability

We want your care to be both effective and affordable. If cost is a barrier and a treatment plan still feels like the right fit for your recovery, let's talk because a sliding scale option may be available.

How are sessions billed?

Stone Physical Therapy is a self-pay practice, which means payment is collected at the time of service. If you would like to seek reimbursement through your insurance, a superbill can be provided after each visit for insurance submission as an out-of-network provider. Coverage and reimbursement rates vary, so it is recommended that future patients verify in advance.

How do I pay?

Stone Physical Therapy accepts all major credit cards, as well as HSA and FSA cards.

Do I need to commit to a plan?

Physical therapy often works best when done consistently, especially as you initiate the rehabilitation process. However, you are never locked into a set number of sessions. After your initial assessment, Samantha will share her recommendation for a treatment approach, which will be revisited and adjusted regularly based on progress. The goal is always to get you better as efficiently as possible.

What conditions can PT treat?

Stone Physical Therapy focuses on orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, including back and neck pain, joint pain, post-surgical recovery, chronic or persistent injuries, and conditions that have been difficult to diagnose or otherwise treat. If you are unsure whether your condition is a good fit, reach out, and we can talk it through.
